Pre-Production: Creative Elements (Canon)

Flat Plan Process of Elimination

These are the flat plans I have made that show my ideas for the print advert. These flat plans in particular didn't make the cut. The first drawing I felt would be actually quite a cool idea as i was planning for ,in pre-production, to make the borders between the photos mesh together to make it seamless transition between them. I thought it had interesting imagery but it didn't really have much in the way of following the codes and conventions with the camera only really being shown in one photo and it doesn't really follow the colour scheme that Canon has. The second flat plan again follows the whole meshing of two photos I was most likely not going to use Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower I was just using that as an example as using those two locations would be a logistical nightmare, I would most likely use the Penshaw Monument and The Angel Of The North as they are a lot closer.I ultimately went against this idea because i wanted to focus more on short daily journeys to relate more to my audience as they most likely don't make these kind of long distance journeys because of their social grade and not being able to afford it.

 Flat Plan

This flat plan consists of three pictures of someone in three different places, the reason for this is to show the progression of a daily journey. This particular journey is of a journey to college which is a common journey for my target audience to take as most of the people in the age range (16-25) are in education such as college/sixth form or university. This was a purposeful decision I made to make sure that the project relates to the audience. Also, depicted in these photos is a Canon camera being held as a prop by the model with it being held further and further up photo by photo. This way it shows off the client's project in a way that keeps it as the focus and shows it off in an interesting way. The last thing is the colour of the background and the text/borders, I want the borders to be red so that it's on brand for canon and captures the attention of the audience while the text is black and bold so that is clear and noticeable along with the text asking the question "What's Your Journey?". by asking a question it entices the audience to stop and think about what the advert is trying to say and look at the advert for longer. Overall, the plan is to completely optimise the likelihood of someone taking notice of the advert as well as making the point of the advert as obvious as possible.

These are the inspirations for the flat plan with the photo layout coming from the second and the colour selection coming from the first image. Both examples were previously done by Canon and were found during the research phase. I liked both of these and thought they were good advertisements for the company so I thought I would recycle these ideas to create a new advert with a different message.

The final product will be edited in Adobe Photoshop. using this application will help me add the red background along with the photo borders and text. There may also be some things I will add in later such as a canon logo or any other addition I come up with in the post-production stage.
